„Scales Do Not Lie“ ist die zweite Vorabauskopplung aus „Protect Your Golden Heart“, dem dritten Album von CITIZEN TIM (Marco Kallenborn). Das erscheint am 29.09.2023 als Co-Release bei Barhill Records und Midsummer Records. Entstanden ist das Album erneut in kompletter Eigenregie.
Der Song handelt von Freundschaften und vermeintlichen digitalen Freundschaften. „Tatsächlich kotzt es mich immer mehr an, in den sozialen Medien unterwegs zu sein. Vieles ist einfach so fake, dass ich es kaum ertragen kann; auch wenn ich als Künstler natürlich versuche, aktiv zu bleiben. Aber es ist Wahnsinn, wie zum Teil aus kleinsten Mücken riesige Elefanten gemacht werden. No front! Aber es wird so viel über Probleme, Phobien und haste-nicht-gesehen geschrieben, während unsere tatsächlichen sozialen Kompetenzen und unsere Fähigkeiten einer ordentlichen Diskussion komplett den Bach runter gehen. Da fühlt es sich oft wie Urlaub an, mit meinen echten Freunden echte Gespräche zu führen“, erklärt Citizen Tim.

The song is about friendships and supposed digital friendships. „In fact, it pisses me off more and more to be on social media. A lot of it is just so fake that I can hardly stand it; even though I try to stay active as an artist, of course. But it’s insane how, in part, huge mountains are made out of molehills. No front! But there is so much written about problems, phobias and anything else, while our actual social skills and our abilities of a proper discussion completely go down the drain. It often feels like a vacation to have real conversations with my real friends,“ explains Citizen Tim.
