Nach den Vorabsongs „Balloon (Modern Version)“ und „Spilled Milk“ erscheint heute die CADAVRE DE SCHNAPS-EP „Unlearning by Doing“ digital und auf CD. Darauf präsentiert die Kölner Indieband ihren ganz eigenen Mix aus Indie- und Alternative Rock sowie Post-Punk. Für eine Band, die eigentlich unter der Indierock-Flagge segelt, waren CADAVRE DE SCHNAPS schon immer viel zu freigeistig und verstiegen: Als DIY-Homerecording-Projekt von Jeong-Il Sin gestartet, wuchs die Schnapsleiche nach dem rotzigen Avantgarde-Folk-Debüt „Let Bad Things Happen“ (2015) schnell zur Band. Dies mündete 2019 in das Album „Comedy“ – ein äußerst komplexes Unterfangen, das einem auf dem imaginären Indie-Dancefloor Knoten in die Beine zauberte.
Die neue 5-Track-EP „Unlearning By Doing“ ist auch nicht gerade Junkfood, dennoch gewinnt man den Eindruck, dass sich das Quartett hier nun auch mal von seiner zugänglicheren Seite zeigen möchte. Sie „deuten viel an, haben Spaß an Zitaten, aber lassen ihren Ideen immer genug Luft, damit man jedes Instrument einzeln heraushören kann“, schreibt „VISIONS“ (04/2022). Die EP sei ein „Mix aus leicht bluesigem, hippieskem Seventies-Rock und wohltemperiertem Indierock, der den Bogen von Bands wie Ja, Panik zu den Libertines spannt“ (JMC Magazin, 22.03.2022). Oder um es mit den Worten des Blogs „Thoughts Words Action“ zu sagen: „(This EP) is undoubtfully one of the best indie releases this year“ (28.02.2022).

On it, the Cologne-based indie band presents its very own mix of indie and alternative rock as well as post-punk. For a band that actually sails under the indie rock flag, CADAVRE DE SCHNAPS have always been far too free-spirited and trippy: Started as a DIY homerecording project by Jeong-Il Sin, the boozy outfit quickly grew into a band after the snotty avant-folk debut „Let Bad Things Happen“ (2015). This culminated in 2019‘s album „Comedy“ – an extremely complex endeavor that tied knots in your legs on the imaginary indie dancefloor.
The new 5-track EP „Unlearning By Doing“ is not exactly junk food either, yet one gets the impression that the quartet now wants to show its more accessible side here. They „hint at a lot, have fun with quotations, but always leave their ideas enough air so that you can hear each instrument individually“, writes „VISIONS“ (04/2022).
