Mit „All We’ve Ever Had (Was Enough)“ erscheint heute die zweite Singleauskopplung aus dem Album „The Beauty Of Dysfunction“ der Kölner Band plasticsoup. Anders als die meisten plasticsoup-Songs, die in langen Jams entstehen, war dieser tatsächlich sehr schnell aus einem Guss da, wurde im Homestudio als Demo eingespielt und danach kaum noch verändert. Vielleicht ist ihm deshalb sein spärlicher, leicht sperriger Charakter erhalten geblieben, der dem opulent-melodischen, fast hymnischen Refrain umso mehr Wucht verleiht. „All we’ve ever had (was enough)“.
Der „peek down the chimney”, zu dem die erste Strophe einlädt, verrät, worum es geht: Wir spinxen durch den Schornstein in eine Lebenswelt, die sich in all ihrer gut ausgebildeten, finanziell abgesicherten, konsumorientierten Durchgeplantheit schließlich als Sackgasse erweist. Bleibt die Frage, was man eigentlich wirklich in den Händen hält – um festzustellen, dass man eigentlich nur eines hat: genug. All we’ve ever had was enough.
Dann vielleicht doch lieber das weniger perfekte Leben – und da sind wir wieder beim Titel des Albums: „The Beauty Of Dysfunction“ erscheint am 12. April.

„All We’ve Ever Had (Was Enough)“, the second single from the album „The Beauty Of Dysfunction“ by Cologne-based band plasticsoup, is out today! Unlike most plasticsoup songs, which are created in long jams, this one was actually created very quickly from a single mould, was recorded as a demo in the home studio and hardly changed afterwards. Perhaps this is why it has retained its sparse, slightly unwieldy character, which gives the opulent, melodic, almost anthemic chorus all the more impact. „All we’ve ever had (was enough)“.
The „peek down the chimney“, which the first verse presents us, reveals what it’s all about: we peep through the chimney into a world that, in all its well-educated, financially secure, consumption-orientated planning, ultimately proves to be a dead end. The question remains as to what you really have in your hands – only to realise that you actually only have one thing: enough. All we’ve ever had was enough.
Perhaps we’d rather have the less perfect life – and that brings us back to the title of the album: „The Beauty Of Dysfunction“ will be released on 12 April.
